CME Announces Start-Up For Exchange-Traded Weather Temperature Futures
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange has announced a launch date of Wednesday, Sept. 22, for the world's first exchange traded temperature-related weather derivatives. At startup, the CME will offer Heating Degree Day (HDD) index futures for four U.S. cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati and New York. The contracts are designed to provide a risk management tool to help businesses protect their revenue during times of depressed demand or excessive costs resulting from unexpected or unfavorable weathe

Real-Time FTSE European And UK Indices To Be Calculated From 0800
In order to reflect the move towards the harmonisation of market hours by a number of European Exchange's, FTSE International today announces that, from 20 September 1999, the calculation of the real-time FTSE European and FTSE UK Indices will commence at 08.00 London time. The close of the real-time FTSE European and UK Indices will remain at 16.30.

Chicago Stock Exchange Board Approves Extended Trading Hours Session - Target Start Date of October 1, 1999
The Chicago Stock Exchange (CHX) announced today that its Board of Governors approved a plan to bring the benefits of a registered securities exchange to retail investors who want to trade during non-traditional hours. Pending the effectiveness of a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, the CHX is targeting a start date of October 1.

NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Set Electronic Trading Volume Record
Henry Hub natural gas set a record on Wednesday night on the New York Mercantile Exchange ACCESS(SM) electronic trading system when 16,337 contracts were traded, surpassing the previous record of 16,038 contracts, traded during the July 29, 1999, session.

American Stock Exchange Reports Increase in Short Interest
The American Stock Exchange member and non-member organizations today reported short interest of 178,784,209 shares as of the August 13, 1999 settlement date, an increase of 6,894,019 shares from the 171,890,190 shares (adjusted) reported in mid-July. The August figure represents trades through August 10, 1999.
