May 2009 Highlights:
- May ECX volumes remained strong in May despite numerous holidays and a major industry conference. Year-on-year volumes increased to 430,583 contracts, representing a 203% increase over the 142,008 contracts traded in May last year.
- Screen liquidity was healthy with daily volumes during the month averaging 7,206 lots.
- Total EUA & CER open interest rose to over 608,000 contracts (608 million tonnes) representing a yearly increase of 104%.
- The EUA Dec-09 futures contract traded in a €2.28 range and reached a peak of €16.00, before retreating to close the month at €14.91.
- ICE Futures Europe and ECX welcome two new members, EGL Spain & REN Trading, bringing the total membership count to 102.
